This month, we met with Alexia Inge, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Cult Beauty, to get the low-down on her best business advice and highlights in a minute or less!
PayPal (PP): In your own words, can you tell us a bit about Cult Beauty please?
Alexia Inge (AI): We are expert curators and trend dictators. We distill the global beauty industry down to its brightest and best - from the latest scientific discoveries, to hundred-year-old remedies that have never been bettered. Cult Beauty is a beauty hall of fame that you can shop in the knowledge that anything you buy will be outstanding.
PP:How would you describe your customers?
AI: Original, discerning, highly intelligent with a great sense of humour and fantastic taste in beauty products.
PP: What’s been your biggest highlight since Cult Beauty started?
AI: I think the most amazing thing has been our recent office move – we’ve come a phenomenally long way since starting out in a spare room above my Auntie’s pub. I’d say we’ve finally worked through the awkward ‘teenage’ phase and can officially consider ourselves ‘grown up’. Cheers to that!
PP: What would you say is the one thing Cult Beauty couldn’t function without?
AI: Bright spark founders, with passion and integrity, who create the perfect beauty product to solve a specific need. Cult Beauty is the sum of many fantastic products like this.
PP: How has the growth of mobile impacted your business?
AI: It has made us more accessible and brought us a new audience. Mobile has presented a whole new range of challenges, not least the introduction of minimalism to messaging in such a small space; it’s a great discipline.
PP: What is your favourite thing about using PayPal?
AI: It’s an enabler.
PP: If you were to give one piece of advice to other businesses, what would it be?
AI: Treat your employees well, make them feel valued and they will do the same for your customer. (Oh, and don’t start a beauty e-tail business!)
PP: Finally, if you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you take with you?
AI: A solar powered sound system, SPF and a large group of friends.
