Greedy Goat Ice Cream was established in 2011 by four friends with a love of food. The plan started when we realised there was a lack of delicious food that isn’t full of horrible stuff. And so began the quest for a healthier indulgence – something more than your standard dessert. As a result we set about using British goat’s milk to create a guilt-free ice cream in a variety of great flavours that doesn’t skimp on taste.
Goat’s milk allows us to create an ice cream that is lactose-friendly, healthier and (in our humble opinion) tastes much better than regular ice cream.
We started trading at Borough Market, London and the response has been amazing. We do all the classic flavours you’d expect, and then one or two you might not, such as Raspberry & Chilli and Lemon, Lime & Basil. We have had a really positive reaction to the ice cream and it makes us really proud when a customer with a dairy allergy, who hasn’t eaten ice cream in years, all of a sudden can because of us.
Trading in a market brings us really close to our customers, and we want to focus on making the experience of buying from us as easy for them as possible. Here on the market, cash is king, but often we see people who want to buy our ice cream on the spur of the moment, but realize they have run out of cash. It’s always worst on weekends when the queues at the cash machines can run round the block, and of course after a while they usually run out which can affect all of our sales.
