PayPal Giving Fund partners with Facebook
Have you checked your Facebook feed today? For most of us, the answer is probably ‘yes’ – or ‘not yet’. Why? Because according to PayPal’s latest consumer research, 65% of people in the UK use Facebook at least once a day[1]. 43% of us even log on three times or more[2].

Given this, it makes sense that more and more people want to donate to charity using social networks too. And that’s why PayPal Giving Fund, harnessing PayPal’s technology, is delighted to have launched a new partnership with Facebook, enabling users to support more of their favourite causes.

Crucially, the partnership will allow over a hundred thousand UK charities in the PayPal Giving Fund directory to benefit from funds raised on Facebook for the first time – with every donation processed using our secure payments technology and without any fees or transaction charges, since Facebook covers the cost of payment processing. That means donors can rest assured their donations to charity will be processed quickly and safely. You can find out more about our partnership with Facebook here.

For PayPal and PayPal Giving Fund, this is a milestone moment. But as you might expect, it’s also just the latest step in our mission to make digital donations as straightforward as possible for everyone. Since 2005, PayPal Giving Fund has been helping people support their favourite causes online, and in 2017 alone it granted more than $100 million in donations to more than 46,000 charities across the UK and US.

If you haven’t used PayPal Giving Fund before, here’s a quick guide to how it works – and how your charity can start benefitting today.

  • Open a PayPal charity account. You can do this here
  • Enrol your charity for free by visiting the PayPal Giving Fund website here
  • Supporters donate to support your charity online, now including Facebook Fundraisers
  • PayPal Giving Fund receives the donations and provides receipts to donors
  • We then grant the funds to your charity

For individual fundraisers supporting charities, it’s just as easy because personal Facebook fundraising pages also accept donations through PayPal. This helps make raising money online as simple as giving it. (Aside from the bit that involves running a marathon, doing a sponsored silence, sitting in baked beans for 24 hours, etc. of course.) It really is that simple.

One last thing, there’s another stat from our research that I want to share: two in five would-be donors have found themselves unable to give to charity as they weren’t carrying any cash[3]. Imagine the number of potentially valuable donations being missed out on as a result.

Put another way, as modern life moves increasingly online, letting people give via their digital wallet as well as their leather one will become central to charities’ ability to generate vital financial support. Whether it’s through Facebook, eBay, Humble Bundle or GoFundMe (to name just a few!), we’re here to help ensure no fundraising opportunity goes to waste.
