PayPal helps bloomon's ambition to be the "Netflix of flowers"
“Flower sellers on the street corner were rapidly disappearing; and supermarkets and motorway petrol stations were now selling cheap bouquets, thrown together with little imagination. The personal touch was lost… The pleasure of flowers had disappeared. No longer were they treasured as they should be.”

If you recognise this sentiment, from bloomon’s website , then you’ll understand the passion behind its founders’ quest “to turn the flower industry on its head. And spread happiness throughout the world.”

From an Amsterdam dining room table in 2014, bloomon has blossomed to today’s presence in 6 countries through its unique business model.

“bloomon is an online florist,” explains Founder and CEO Patrick Hurenkamp. “Every 2 weeks we deliver an amazing bouquet with super fresh flowers. We work directly with the growers and we deliver the flowers from the growers directly to the customer.”

By avoiding auctions, wholesalers and stores, Patrick says, bloomon’s flowers are days fresher and lovingly arranged, by dedicated stylists, into carefully crafted bouquets.

The web is central to bloomon’s success and the business has offered PayPal as a payment method since the beginning.

“We know that around 1 out of 5 payments on our website are taking place with PayPal … a really significant number,” says Patrick.

“PayPal helped us improve the mobile experience and also it helped us with our international expansion, because it's a preferred payment method in many of the countries we are active in,” he continues.

PayPal is optimised for mobile payments. As mobile devices are increasingly preferred for accessing the internet, PayPal simplifies the payment process for a small, smartphone screen: no tedious typing of confidential, personal information, no juggling of card and phone to enter 16 digits. All you need is your PayPal login.

It’s great for selling overseas, too. PayPal is a widely recognised and trusted brand that gives customers confidence with an unknown seller. PayPal also makes it easy to offer customers payment in their local currency and their locally-preferred payment method. Check out our international selling page for more help and advice.

Patrick has big ambitions for his business. bloomon has recently expanded to France and also operates in Netherlands, UK, Belgium, Germany and Denmark, but Patrick also has his eyes on expanding into new continents.

“In 5 years, I see bloomon being the Netflix of flowers,” he told us.
