Weather-proof, toddler-proof and even Dad-proof: OLPRO
“Fun, funky and family-oriented,” OLPRO are specialists in colourful and technical camping and caravanning gear designed to meet the demands of Britain’s wilderness and its ever-changing weather. Because, not everyone’s Bear Grylls.
 
The story began when Daniel Walton couldn’t find products that were both family friendly and able to cope with the UK’s climate. Spotting a need in the market, he founded OLPRO.
The family firm designs, manufactures and rigorously tests all its products to be toddler-proof, Dad-proof and fit for the Great British Outdoors.
 

They took the same approach to selecting payment technology, as Daniel explains, “[We were] looking at payment methods and what we were going to do, looking at the cost, looking at how easy systems were. We’ve used PayPal since day one and it's just grown and grown and grown. It's been extremely easy to use."

 
OLPRO was founded in 2011 and the firm has used more of PayPal tools and services as its business has expanded. In fact, PayPal Working Capital has helped the business grow, as Daniel explains:
“PayPal Working Capital's been really, really important to us because, as we have grown as a business, it's meant that we've needed more stock. We work very closely with factories in the Far East, but we obviously need to pay them deposits upfront and that's where PayPal Working Capital's come into its own. It's allowed us to lay down deposits on the extra stock that we've needed as we’ve grown as a company. It’s allowed us to continue to grow.”
 
For outdoor shows and festivals, the team uses PayPal Here: “It's been very, very easy to use, particularly now that contactless is here as well. It means that selling anything under £30, people literally just show the card to the reader and that's ultimately what we need at the shows.”
 
Mobile commerce is growing fast. Recent PayPal research finds that shopping from a mobile device outstrips traditional PCs by four to one. OLPRO has optimised its website for users with smaller, smartphone-sized screens. PayPal plays an important part in making the mobile shopping experience as smooth as possible. As a result, more than 65% of OLPRO’s online sales now come from a mobile device.
 
And, while some might think of camping as a seasonal business, OLPRO is reaching across the world with PayPal Global Sellers.
 
“It absolutely helps with abandoned shopping carts,” Daniel explains. “They are coming down dramatically and I think that is a direct response to using PayPal Global Sellers, not least because people are going on there, they're seeing the website in their own language, they're seeing the payment currency as being their own currency, it's been fantastic.”
 
So, now OLPRO can look forward to secure, sunny weather sales all year round. After all, it’s always summer somewhere.
