This month, we met with Julian Hearn, Founder of
Huel, to get the low-down on his best business advice and highlights in a minute or less.
In your own words, can you tell us a bit about your business please?
Huel is a nutritionally balanced meal, providing you with all 27 essential vitamins and minerals, protein, essential fats, carbs, fibre and phytonutrients, all in a single product.
How would you describe your customers?
Lovely, for some reason we seem to attract really engaged and positive customers, which we call Huelers. I think it's because we are a mission based business with our heart in the right place. Our mission is to make nutritionally complete, convenient, affordable food, with minimum impact on animals and the environment.
What’s been your biggest highlight since your business started?
Wow there’s been so many. We are one of the fastest growing companies in the UK and have sold over 25 million meals to over 80 countries. We’ve been profitable since launch, but best of all is when I receive emails from customers who love our products.
What would you say is the one thing your business couldn’t function without?
Shopify. I love them. We don't have to worry about hosting, up and down time, it's all handled.
How has the growth of mobile impacted your business?
We only sell via our website, so it’s had a positive impact on our business the more people online the better for Huel.
What is your favourite thing about using PayPal?
It's so widely adopted.
If you were to give one piece of advice to other businesses, what would it be?
Test and learn without investing too much and if you don't see early traction seriously consider if you are on the right track.
Finally, if you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you take with you?
A satellite phone, solar charger, and a container load of Huel.
